CHEMFLOW Maintenance Tips for your Powell UniPro
Today’s featured product line is Powell Fabrications UniPro Valve Closure Device. CHEMFLOW recommends you follow our Powell UniPro maintenance tips to get the maximum life out of your Powell UniPro equipment.
Starting in the early 1990s, Powell Fabrication has been the leader in high-reliability valve closure devices that provide the safest way to isolation a Chlorine Railcar in the event of a leak or unexpected railcar movement. Early designs called MultiPro were somewhat complicated to attach to the railcar domes. Powell perfected their design which simplified attachment to the railcar dome and valve. The new designs under the UniPro name have been an amazing success with a near 90% share of the emergency valve closure market.
Maintenance Tips:
- Clean / Dry Air Supply
- Plant air supply systems when properly maintained will deliver dry air to the UniPro motor.
- Wet plant air systems will dramatically reduce motor life due to accelerated corrosion of internal parts.
- Powell’s engineered “Air Control Units” provide filtered air to the UniPro motor, including a constant low volume air purge that will keep the motor internals dry.
- Proper Storage
- When not in use, UniPro motors should not be left out in the open for extended periods of time.
- A covered tool bin on the railcar dock is a great storage solution.
- Frequent Use
- Set up your UniPro Valve closure system such that it can be exercised often.
- A great way to do this is to use the UniPro motors to close the railcar valves at the end of each filling or unloading of the car. This will also provide an important safety check of system function.
- Annual Maintenance
- CHEMFLOW works closely with our customers to maintain their UniPro motors. We can facilitate 100% of your maintenance needs.
- Powell suggests the annual return of your UniPro motor for a general clean up and torque output verification. Watch the following video to see how it is done.
